The Uprise of Miss Sohee

Eliza Chandler, News Editor

Miss Sohee presented one of the best couture shows that I have seen in a while at Paris Fashion Week. Sohee Park, who is known as Miss Sohee, is a Womenswear Designer. Born in South Korea, the designer moved to London and studied at Central Saint Martins. Shortly after graduating, her gowns were featured on the cover of LOVE Magazine, alongside press in Vogue, Elle, Vanity Fair and W. Her designs have been seen on many celebrities such as Cardi B, Bella Hadid, Taylor Hill, and Blackpink. She launched her brand in 2020, with the support of Dolce and Gabbana.

Her first Paris Couture Show was presented in the grand ballroom at the Westin Paris-Vendôme, where Yves Saint Laurent used to present his collections, back when it was still known as the Inter-Continental. She told WWD “I’ve always wanted to show in Paris,” adding, “It’s a very meaningful moment.”

Her spring couture lineup was inspired by the change of season. The show consisted of lavish embroideries of birds, insects, and flowers splashed across a fuchsia bustier gown with jet-bead fringe dripping from the bust; floor-length coats with oversize shoulders, and several spectacular satin cape coats.

But her show wasn’t on the official calendar. Haute couture is an official accreditation issued by France’s Chambre Syndicale de la Couture; however, the term is often employed to describe work that’s one-of-a-kind and made with exceptional craftsmanship, so the council made an exception.

Her team was made up of 12 people based in North London, and took four months to complete.

Miss Sohee loves to work with silk taffeta with bright gold jewel tones. She said her dream is to design and have Beyoncé wear one of her dresses.

I would love to see where the Miss Sohee brand will go in the future, and I’m excited to see what she will do.
