Music and Tears: Shakira and Piqué’s Messy Divorce
January 28, 2023
The breakup between famous Colombian singer, Shakira and Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique has caused controversy over the past few months. The couple, who are parents to two sons, Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7, announced in June they were breaking up after 11 years together.
“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the statement read. “For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we request respect for privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”
During September, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer addressed the breakup in a cover interview for Elle’s October issue. This was the singer’s first time publicly speaking on her divorce.
“I’ve remained quiet and just tried to process it all. Um, and yeah, it’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still going through it, and because I’m in the public eye and because our separation is not like a regular separation. And so it’s been tough not only for me, but also for my kids. Incredibly difficult.”, she said.
Shakira had speculations of her husband having affairs with other women when her strawberry jam was gone. According to Shakira, Pique despises strawberry jam and when she came home after traveling, it was missing. Her woman instinct didn’t fail her because at the end of the day, she was being lied to.
The breakup between the couple has been made official for a few months now through written statements. However, the best way Shakira made her come back to the music industry, what better way than to write about her husband cheating on her?
Her first song, with Rauw Alejandro, Te Felicito, released in August of 2022: months after, in collaboration with urban singer Ozuna, Monotonía was released, a bachata song talking about a couple’s struggles in their relationships. In January of 2023, Shakira collaborated with Argentinian producer Bizzarap and released session #53. These songs are all indirect attacks to the soccer player, but have boosted her ever since they were released.
Loyalty and connection:
Being loyal entails upholding your commitments to the Catholic Church, God, and your family, as well as refraining from betraying anyone if doing so will cause you to suffer. The Bible claims that because God cannot deny Himself, He stays faithful even though we are not.
