Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day?
You may ask, What is Galentines? What’s the point?

It’s pretty much engraved in our heads that Valentine’s is to spend with your significant other, going on romantic dates and eating an insane amount of chocolate, but that’s not really the case anymore. GALENTINE’S is for the gals! A full day of showering your besties with love, fun, and of course, FOOD! Not everyone needs a date to have fun on Valentine’s Day. Galentine’s is a day of celebrating friendships and strong relationships with loved ones. It’s not an official holiday, but it really honors people who are there for you, which is just as important as Valentine’s Day. Until Galentine’s Day, there wasn’t a set day to really recognize all of your non-romantic relationships

It was actually founded by Leslie Knope, a character on the TV comedy, “Parks and Recreation.” The friend-filled holiday dates back over a decade to season two, episode 16. During the 2010 episode (which is aptly called “Galentine’s Day”), Leslie gathers a group of her closest gal pals for a brunch full of waffles and love in the episode “Ladies Celebrating ladies”

After this, Galentine’s was unofficially added to everyone’s calendar…
I am even guilty of this, as I am planning my own Galentine’s Day to celebrate my friends and make them all feel special.

There’s really no right or wrong way to celebrate because we are creating this tradition. You get to choose your own rules. If it’s by paying tribute to Leslie Knope, or just getting your favorite junk food with your friends, DO IT!
