More than just a children’s movie, it is a film with a powerful message for everyone.

Dreamworks Studios recently released “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” within a week of “Avatar: The Way Of Water.” And suffice it to say, “Puss In Boots,” while squarely aimed at a children’s audience, absolutely stomped “Avatar.”

“I thought it was a cinematic masterpiece that was sad, funny, thrilling and had all the ups and downs of a beautifully made movie,” said junior Tula Hidalgo, just demonstrating just the effect it had on viewers.

The 11-year’s long sequel to a spin off from “Shrek” received a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes designated as one of the most well rounded movies. From its creative animation which was a mix of “Spiderman” into the Spider- verse and the original “Puss in Boots,” to its villain which is ultimately up there with Christoph Waltz’s Hans Landa from “Inglorious Basterds” fame for his intense level of malevolence, the movie had it all. While it is a children’s movie, that did not stop director Joel Crawford from creating one of the most chilling villains- Death, a wolf voiced by Wagner Moura, the Brazilian actor known for his chilling portrayal of Pablo Escobar in the Netflix series, “Narcos.” The wolf is literal death and has come for Puss because Puss has taken his nine lives for granted.

And, yes, some will say it is a children’s movie with a children’s theme to push along, and I would stronly disagree with them by saying the movie was so much more than that. The villain was not your stereotypical evil-doer who is out to steal, cheat, or be cruel. In reality Puss is portrayed as the one who is in the wrong for not cherishing the gift of his nine lives. Death the wolf is there to show how much Puss should cherish the life he has left. In the end, Death does not kill Puss because he realizes Puss has learned to cherish his life and that is the ultimate beautiful message; to cherish the life and memories we have, and to be grateful for those around us.
