“The Last of Us” is HBO’s new show that has become very popular since its release January 15th, 2023. As many know, this show is an adaptation of the already very popular video game which has been around since 2013.

For those who may not know, this show takes place 20 years after the apocalypse, and centers on a man named Joel (played by Pedro Pascal). Joel has been given the task to take Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl who is immune to the virus, to a group of scientists who think she is the key to discovering a cure.

This show currently has only six episodes and already has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The series premiere garnered 4.7 million U.S. viewers, making it HBO’s second largest debut. The premiere caused a 69% increase in first-time U.S downloads of HBO Max’s app.

One critic wrote, “My hopes were high and somehow the episode managed to surpass them.”

The most recent episode came out this past Friday, titled ‘Endure and Survive,’ currently with a rating of 91, has critics writing things such as “The harrowing final moments of episode five encapsulates an awful truth. Desperation breeds villainy as humanity’s remnants resort to whatever means necessary for survival. Those who share compassion become casualties of a cruel new reality.”

Given all this raging success, the hit series has already been renewed for a second season which will follow the second game’s storyline. Neil Druckmann, who is the creator of the video game, and the executive producer of the show, recently said, “I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey…Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with season two! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog & PlayStation, thank you!”
