NBC news recently released a statement per Netflix announcing to its plethora of users that, “Your days of giving free access to your account to someone outside your home are numbered.”

WHAAAAA?

The streaming platform announced Wednesday it would begin charging subscribers in a handful of countries to add up to two additional users who don’t live in the same household to their account according to NBC News.

Password sharing has been a common practice among many users, but Netflix is now cracking down on this “issue” and imposing a new rule:

“For members using a standard or premium plan, up to two people outside of a household can be added to the account at an additional charge.” (adn.com).

Many loyal Netflix users are not too happy with all of the new modifications. Many users are left with the question, “is Netflix even worth using anymore?”

“I find it unfair and inconsiderate that Netflix has started doing this. Some people are less fortunate and can’t afford a monthly Netflix subscription, so they use their friends’ Netflix password and account to watch shows. I feel Netflix is slowly going downhill and losing many users to better apps such as HBO Max and Hulu, ” said sophomore Marcella Orlandini.

Unfortunately for Netflix, approximately 7 out of 10 students who were asked the question “Is Netflix worth using anymore with all the new modifications, for example the removal of many shows and the new password sharing charge?” answered, “no.”

You may be considering the possibilities of ways to trick the system, but this is in fact not possible.

Netflix says on its website that the company uses, “IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity from devices signed into the Netflix account” to determine which devices are in the same household. People who do not live in your household will need to use their own account to watch Netflix.”(cbsnews.com).

I’ll leave you with the question: Will you continue to use Netflix now?
