This week is Social Emotional Learning Week led by Ms. Lianne Rodriguez.

“Social Emotional learning is an educational practice by which interpersonal skills and self awareness are developed,” she explained

She also added that people who practice social emotional learning are more successful at school, work, and relationships.

In social emotional learning there are five pillars: Self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision- making, self management, and relationship skills

Self-awareness means to focus on yourself, like have a spa day, and just put aside anything that is stressing you out.

Social awareness is being able to communicate to with people when you enter a room, and to be socially aware of your surroundings.

Responsible decision-making is making a good decision based on the information you have.

Self-management is being organized, and being able to manage work, school, and anything else you have going on in your life.

Relationship skills means being able to have a good relationship, one-on-one, and an understanding that person, whether it be a family member or romantic partner.

Ms. Rodriguez said by working on these skills, you can become a more well-rounded person.

Though this week is SEL but the actual day for it is Friday, March 10.

“It’s important that we observe SEL week because the skills we learn from it will help in real world,” she added.

This is why every morning during SEL week a video is broadcast into each classroom. sh

Since Ms. Rodriguez teaches theater arts, she asks her students everyday to be emotional, to be prepared to explore their inner life and to be expressive.

This is why SEL is so near and dear to Ms. Rodriguez’s heart because it is invaluable in her classroom.
