And the Oscar goes to…
If you are an actor, a film fanatic or interested in the entertainment business, the Oscars if one of the most important award ceremonies.
The Oscars are considered the most prestigious, glamorous and impactful event where they celebrate the best movies, performances, and creativity of the year.
The 2023 oscars were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and were first brought to your feed when the guests hit the red carpet, though this year it was a pale champagne, carpet. The Oscars, alongside the MET Gala and others, are the new “Vogue” fashion show. Celebrities amazed the crowd with unique and elegant outfits.
When it comes to awards and nominations, here’s what you need to know.
There are 23 categories: best picture, actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, directing, original screenplay, adapted screenplay, cinematography, production design, editing, original score, original song, costume design, makeup and hairstyling, sound mixing, sound editing, visual effects, foreign-language film, animated feature film, animated short, live-action short, documentary feature, and documentary short.
This ceremony was the return to the original format of the academy prior to the pandemic.
One of the most anticipated moments of the whole night was the winner for “Best Picture” which means best movie. The nominees were: “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Top Gun:Maverick,” “Avatar,” “Elvis,” “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and more. In the end, the winner was ultimately “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” an American absurdist comedy-drama- sci-fi film. This movie lead the event with 11 total nominations, including best actress (Michelle Yeoh).
Best Actor in a supporting leading role was Ke Huy Quan in the movie “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” His speech was very emotional and went viral on TikTok for his inspiring story from being an underrated Vietnamese actor, to winning an Oscar.
Best Actress in a leading supporting role was Jaime Lee Curtis, who has been in the in the film industry for 40 years. She is best known for her role in the Halloween series, and other throwbacks. She plays a secretary in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”
This year’s Oscars were very strong on multiracial representation, highlighting both Asian and African-American cultures in various awards.
Best Actor went to Brendan Fraser who played Charlie in the movie “The Whale” about an obese man who fights his medical issues while trying to resuscitate his relationship with his estranged daughter.
Best Visual Effects was given to “Avatar: The Way of the Water,” for their excellent effort in creative images like fantasy sea animals and scenery.
Best Director was also won by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for their work in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Best Animated Feature went to Guillermo Del Toro’s “Pinocchio.”
