Just five months into 2023, hundreds of movies have been released. Ranking movies definitely involve’s a particular opinion; however, there is one way to find a legitimate top ten—the domestic box office.

THE TOP TEN HIGHEST GROSSING MOVIES (as of May 18th):

THE TOP 5:
Super Mario Bros is currently the highest grossing film of the year. Released April 5th, it has played at over 4,371 theaters. Avatar: The Way of Water was actually released last year December 16th; yet, it still managed to make this list at 2nd place. It has generated $684 million at the box office (2022 and 2023 combined), surpassing Titanic ($674 million) and becoming the 7th-highest grossing domestic release of all time. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is the third and final movie in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. It was released on May 5th, 2023 and has been shown in over 4,450 theaters. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has not received the best rating, (47% Rotten Tomatoes), but it still managed to make this list. Released February, it has shown at over 4,345 theaters. John Wick: Chapter Four emerged most recently March 24th, and is still in select theaters.

“My favorite film from this list is Scream Vl, I like the horror factor and thought that it was a super entertaining addition to the franchise,” said freshman Sara Moreno.

“My favorite was the Scream movie because of the characters and the suspense of figuring out who the killer was. I also liked the plot twist of how there were three killers instead of the typical two.
