Better known as ADMA, this service club focuses on leading young people to Mary through acts of charity. It allows students to invite Mary into their hearts while helping those in need.
“I recently joined ADMA. It has a beautiful message that I’m proud to be a part of,” said sophomore Amelie Terry.
ADMA was originally founded by Don Bosco. He dreamed of an association where everyone was as devoted to Mary as he was. Today, his dream has become a reality.
“Mary is the Star of the Sea. She never forsakes those who trust in Her, so let us get under her protecting mantle. She will lead us out of the danger and guide us safely to port,” Don Bosco wrote oover 100 years ago.
Begun here at ILS by Sister Myriam Meus in 2020 as part of her vocation, Sr. Myriam wanted to share Don Bosco’s dream everyone at ILS. Thus, she created a club where young people can devote themselves to Mary through charity and service.
“I took Don Bosco’s love for Mary and made it a reality here at ILS. It’s very important to me,” she said.
Having arrived to Miami after living in New Jersey for four years, Sister Miriam deeply enjoys the warmth of the people and culture here. But most of all, she enjoys leading the youth to Mary. She became a sister after feeling a divine inspiration to respond to Jesus’s love for her.
“He invited me to be his spouse, so I chose to respond by becoming a sister because I love him very much,” she explained.
One way ADMA members help others is by praying, playing, and engaging with the children of Notre Dame D’Haiti Church in Little Haiti. They get to bond with the children through various games and activities. Together they profess their love for Mary in prayer.
“Spending time with the kids of little Haiti has not only enriched their lives but also my heart; it’s been a very rewarding experience,” said Junior Alysa-Grace Calixte, Vice President of the ADMA Club.
