ILS Sailing Team Ranks 2nd At Regatta

Here is your Sunday Sports Flash!

Volleyball: Varsity Girls’ Volleyball is back-to-back District Champs! They defeated District Rival MAST Academy in straight sets (25-23, 25-20. And 25-20). Leading the attack in the championship game was Lara Potente and Helen Montilla each with 7 kills while Grace Blanco added 6 kills. The team got big help serving the ball with Luci Gonzalez having 7 aces and Grace had 8 aces. This is the team’s 4th district title in 5 years and 2nd time going back-to-back since 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Swimming: The Swimming team was in action at their district meet. Boys team finished 4th while the Girls team finished 5th. Results below:

Lucas Young: 1st place 200 IM & 1st place 100 breast

Lucas Franchak: 2nd place 100 fly

Mathias Alvarado: 1st place 50 free & 2nd place 100 free

Boys 200 free relay – 1st place: Lucas Young, Mathias Alvarado, Lucas Franchak, Joaquín Espinal

Rachel Larralde: 3rd place 100 breast

Boys 200 medley relay – 1st place: Lucas Young, Mathias Alvarado, Lucas Franchak, Joaquín Espinal

Cross Country: The XC team participated in 2 races.They first headed over to Larry & Penny Thomspon park this past Friday to take on the 305 Classic. The boys were led by sophomore Roman Morse who finished 78th out of 166 participating runners with a 5k time of 21:14. The girls were led by junior Daisy Gonzalez (84th out of 124) who posted a 5k time of 27:30.

The team then headed to Stuart, Florida to race at the Southfork Bulldog invitational. Against strong competition, both the Boys and Girls performed exceptionally well. The Girls finished 10th out of 16 teams and were led by senior Mariam Osman (22:40, 26th out of 146), junior Ariana Armas (23:46, 46th out of 146) and junior Juliet Egea (24:54, 66 out of 146). The Boys finished 10th out of 23 teams and were led by senior Emmanuel Roca (10th out of 204, 16:38 – a new school record!), Sophomore Daniel Brito (18:31(PR), 42nd out of 204) and senior Carlos Aldecoa (19:51, 80th out of 204). Freshman Nicolas Cabezon also performed exceptionally well breaking the 20 minute barrier with a new PR (19:58, 85 out of 204).

The team will then return back to Larry & Penny Thompson Park for their District Championship Race next Wednesday November 1st.

Sailing: SAISA South Point 2, the 2nd of the 7 South Point regattas on the Varsity team schedule at Jensen Beach. The whole team travelled to the event and ILS had 3 teams competing, Varsity, JV1 and JV2, each team with a A and B skipper.

Varsity finished 2nd overall at the regatta out of 19 schools. Umi Noritake skippered Division A with junior Natalie Caudron as crew. Division B had junior Keith Grupenhoff as skipper with juniors Marco Andres and Soleil Aurignac as crews. Division B had an amazing race day finishing first in 2 out of 5 races.

JV teams dominated the Junior Varsity regatta finishing in 1st and 2nd respectively out of 10 boats. JV 2 finished 1st with freshman David Coates as skipper and junior Lucia Martinez Moure as crew for Division A and freshmen Marina Wardlaw and Leonardo Tarzani alternating skipper and crew duties for Division B. JV 1 finished 2nd overall with sophomore Isabella Henrich and freshman Beck Brill as skippers and freshmen Alejandro Escudero and Christian Gutierrez as crew for division A and B respectively.

Golf: The Golf team was in action. The Boys Golf team took on Gulliver and Palmer Trinity. Nick Dominguez led the Royals with a 40 and 45 for the two days. Hector Pires with a strong 47 and 48. Pablo Carpenter 49 helped in the season finale.

Football: The Football team lost a close back and forth Homecoming game. The game came down to the last seconds and the Royals just came up short. They look to bounce back this week with anther home game on Friday.  Thank you to everyone who came out to HOCO game to support the team!
