Saturday Night Live, or SNL, finally returned October 14th for season 49 after complications with the Writers Guild of America strike. Pete Davidson, who was supposed to host in the last season, was finally able to host in the comeback episode. Rapper Ice Spice served as the musical guest. The cast of the show remains the same, with the addition of Chloe Troast.

SNL is a show that is known for satirizing current events going on in the world, but this comeback came after a very unprecedented few weeks. With the war in the Middle East, it has not been an easy time for many. Pete Davidson as host shared how he lost his father in the 9/11 terrorist attacks as a child. “I know what you’re thinking, who better to comment on it than Pete Davidson?” he said. “Well, in a lot of ways, I’m a good person to talk about it because when I was seven-years-old my dad was killed in a terrorist attack,” he continued. “So I know something about what that’s like.” Davidson’s mother, to help her son with the loss, showed her the comedy of Eddie Murphy. This truly helped Davidson feel better, so he said that he wouldn’t try to talk to much about the evil going on in the world, but focus on making people laugh.

The second episode of the season was hosted by Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, and he also served as the musical guest. Bad Bunny is a Puerto Rican artist whose first language is not English. So despite SNL always being in English, he spoke in Spanish. “People are wondering if I can host the show, because English is not my first language,” he said. “I don’t know if they know, but I do whatever I want.”

The next episode of SNL is set to air on October 28th and will be hosted by stand up comedian Nate Bargatze. If you’re a fan of SNL, make sure not to miss it.
