Swiming has always been a sensation all over the world, including here at ILS.
Swimming was first introduced at the Olympics in 1896. The first known record of people swimming dates back to Egyptian drawings from 2500 BC, with stone age paintings in the Cave of Swimmers dating back even further.
Sophmore Lucas young is a great swimmer and has a good career ahead of him.
“The seasons going really well; I’ve won every race. I was district champion and regional champion in both of my events. I’m looking forward to swim at states and potentially win and be state champion,” he said.
Something interesting about the ILS swim team is that they are one of the best sports at ILS yet receive scant fan attention.
Swimming is one of the few sports performed in water. Besides being performed in water and not on land, water is almost 800 times as dense as air. There is much more resistance, which prevents being able to move through it quickly.
Sophmore Lucas Franchak has swum for many years and is excited for states.
“We had a good season; getting back this year has felt great. I got second place at the Belen Invite, bringing back our first swimming trophy. Now we have to focus on states in Ocala this Saturday,” said Lucas.
The ILS swim team is good at their own events, but it seems like something they can improve on is team races like the relays, according to Lucas Young.
Sophmore Mathias Alvarado is happy at how the season has gone so far.
“This season has gone really well, and I’m really looking forward for states as most of the team is. We’re all really excited and have had a good season,” he said.
There is a lot of talent on the ILS swim team. If states goes well for these individuals, it will be a huge plus. As the swim team grows, they hope to receive a greater ILS fan base.
