The appeal of Katniss Everdeen is that she is a strong, smart, and a powerful female protagonist. At the time that the books first came out, having a strong female character was very important for other girls to feel represented.
The Hunger Games films also became very popular, and are considered among one of the few film adaptations to be executed faithfully. With famed actress Jennifer Lawrence portraying Katniss, they were able to reach an even bigger audience.
“I have only ever seen the movies, but I love them! I think they’re so entertaining and I rewatch them a lot,” said senior Andrea Celada.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the latest iteration, has brought the Hunger Games back. The movie tells the story of President Snow and how he started the modern Hunger Games. It weaves an incredible villain origin story of doomed love and revenge.
