On Tuesday, the ILS varsity boys basketball team hosted the Belen Jesuit’s in their regular season opener. It was a ‘black out’ theme, in which ILS wore black jerseys instead of the regular white jerseys.

It was a rare occasion for the basketball games, as there was an announcer, a band led by Mr. Alicandu, and a packed crowd ready to root on for the Royals.

LaSalle got off to a hot start, hustling up and down the court forcing the other team to commit mistakes and turn the ball over.

Junior Emilio Ramirez was on fire from beyond the arc, knocking down four threes, totaling for 20 points, a game-high.

Freshman point guard Gilbert Salazar put on a shooting display in the second half, hitting two threes from beyond the NBA 3-point line. He scored 11 points in the 4th quarter, and 13 in total.

Despite the hot first quarter, the Royal Lions were unable to maintain a stride rhythm, and the offense struggled in spurts.

After a tough fight, the Royal Lions were defeated by Belen 60-43.

Moving on from this loss, LaSalle looks to rebound against a (1-3) Terra Environmental team next Tuesday, December 3rd at 7:30pm in the Lions Den.
