“Florida man found climbing tree ‘like Tarzan’ after police chase.” “Florida man says high-speed police chase felt like ‘Grand Theft Auto’ video game.” “Florida man caught beer belly wrestling a gator.”

The headlines circulating social media are endless, scaring outsiders into believing a unique breed of unfazed men circulate the streets of Florida.

Countless tales of the adventures of “Florida Man” have become a national joke, funny to all except the concerned citizens of the sunshine state. Unfortunately, Floridians suffer alone, since this intriguing breed is solely found and multiplied in their beloved state.

You might be wondering what began this notorious meme? Big round of applause to Twitter!

“In 2013, the Florida Man Twitter account was created by magazine editor Freddie Campion,” according to Netflix.com.

Since the outrageous headlines of real life news articles were posted on the Twitter account, Florida men references have become universally known.

“Numerous news outlets and late night talk shows referenced Florida Man, and the joke took on a life of its own separate from social media,” added Netflix.com.

The crimes can be as tame as a Florida man simply stealing from a Dollar Store, to outlandish acts never thought to be committed, such as “Florida man arrested for crashing car into a mall; says he was trying to time travel,” found on legit.ng.

The infamous image placed on Florida concerning its criminal activity has been occurring for quite some time.

“Florida became a punching bag during the 2000 Bush-Gore election recount; Hollywood often portrayed the state as a crime-infested party scene in shows,” according to Netflix.com.

With this rep being advertised by one of America’s most influential media outlets, Florida Man memes quickly gathered views and transformed real-life scenarios into harmless jokes for the nation to mock.

Guilted by the realization these were legitimate crimes were affecting everyday civilians, the creator of the Twitter account retired in 2019.

Today, the meme actively engulfs the internet with new Florida man adventures, entertaining Americans and terrifying Floridians.
