Picture this: a white food truck with the familiar lemon/ice pattern, the blue and yellow
umbrella lounging above its customers, the crisp by breeze, and that iconic parking spot. If this sounds familiar, you might be thinking of the local landmark A.C.’s Icees stop. A.C., a Michigan man, started his business in 1978 with a different food truck, but the same classic treat. What started as a solo venture has since expanded. Today, A.C. has Mr. Tommy Harrington and Mr. Eric Deez to lighten the load.
The hotter the sun the better the business.

While the Miami heat can overwhelm northern tourists, A.C. relies heavily on the warmer temperatures to keep customers rolling in. Naturally, the shop’s busiest times are summer break and spring break. Thanksgiving and Christmas break also have their fair share of customers.
“I just love the little jitterbugs and older folks driving home from work or school to get themselves a highlight for their day,” said Mr. Deez.
With a passion for this business, Mr. Deez has found joy in bringing smiles to the hardworking people of Miami through a simple icee. While the average food truck might be scared of drawing police attention, A.C.’s is unique. The truck has its own official parking spot where many officers stop by to get an icee at the end of their patrol shifts.
“Sometimes after a long day of school I head down to A.C’s icees to cool off,” said senior Gabriella Costa.
One of the benefits of A.C.’s is its proximity to ILS. Though very few students take advantage of the proximity. A.C.’s remains a wonderful place to blow off steam, especially during AP exams and regular class finals.
If you have an extra $5 to spend, the best place is A.C.’s for a slushie and a smile— the same kind A.C.’s has been serving since 1978.
