This past month, Mu Alpha Theta has chosen Seniors Emily Jayne Rodriguez and Andrea Isla Canedo to receive the “Tutor Recognition Award.”

Mu Alpha Theta is the mathematics honor society at Immaculata-La Salle high school. The inductees are dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the genuine enjoyment of it.

As members of the honor society, Mu Alpha Theta members provide free tutoring to students in Math Lab. Math Lab is a time for students to become more confident in themselves and in the material.

Math Lab has shown to be a tremendous success as it has accounted for many students to improve in their mathematic abilities! The tutors do everything in their will power to ensure that no questions are left unanswered.

This month, it was impossible to not recognize two Mu Alpha Theta tutors that went above and beyond in helping other students.

Emily Rodriguez earned her tutor recognition award with Mu Alpha Theta.

Seniors Emily Jayne Rodriguez and Andrea Isla Canedo have demonstrated outstanding passion and dedication towards helping their peers in math. They have prioritized the progress of those whom they mentor. These qualities are everything Ms. Cannon, the head of Mu Alpha Theta, loves to see in her aspiring tutors, hence the “Tutor Recognition Award”!

“The “Tutor Recognition Award” is a new part of our Tutoring Program,” said Ms Cannon. “The award is given to students that go above and beyond what is required of them. Some of the characteristics we’ve seen that are shared by those students that have received the award are a willingness to tutor no matter what subject, no matter when, and doing it all with patience, love, and joy. The tutors that have received the award tutor their peers with a loving disposition and make the student being tutored feel respected, comfortable to ask questions, and at ease.”

Senior Emily Rodriguez is proud to have made a difference as a tutor.

“This recognition means a lot to me and inspires me to try to tutor more,” said Rodriguez. “I’m so dedicated to helping my fellow classmates and schoolmates through tutoring because I love helping others and seeing them succeed.”

Mu Alpha Theta tutoring is available during advisory block (sign up on the Math Lab app!) or after school by appointment (email Ms. Cannon at jacannon@ilsroyals.com).

Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity!
