This year ILS welcomed 23 new transfer students in total: 9 sophomores, 11 juniors, and 5 seniors. While the overall number of transfers is consistent with past years, the unusually high number of juniors and seniors stands out. Many of the new students shared their passion for sports as a key reason for transferring to ILS.
“I wanted to play basketball,” stated sophomore Brian Ramirez.
Sophomore Brian Lilo Ramirez, who transferred from Columbus High School, explained that his decision was mainly influenced by his passion to compete in basketball. At his previous school, they offered a basketball team, but Ramirez thought he would play a better role on the ILS team. Adding to that, ILS’s program offered him the opportunity to grow and compete at a greater and higher level.
“I came to La Salle to play soccer,” said junior Andre Zeron.
Andre had previously been home-schooled while playing soccer for Western. He shared a similar reasoning in his transfer.
After being home-schooled for high school, he found ILS’s soccer team and academic environment to be very appealing.
He hopes to do well in both his athletic abilities and his education during the remaining time he has at ILS.
“I wanted to become a Royal Lion soccer player,” exclaimed sophomore Sofia Amsler.
Sofia, who also transferred for athletic reasons, previously attended Mater Biscayne. At her previous school, soccer was not available. Her interest in wanting to play soccer influenced her decision to make the switch to ILS. She looks forward to joining the team and to representing her new school on the field.
While many of the transfers were attracted by the school’s athletic programs, the students interviewed also agreed that ILS has a good balance between academics and sports, making it a great choice for students who wish to excel in both areas.
