After spending six years with Chipotle, Brian Niccol has been named as the new Starbucks CEO, in hopes that he can revive sales. While at Chipotle, he improved the way that stores operated and created a loyalty program for customers. Along with that, he brought employee benefits such as the program that pays their college tuition. Under his management, Chipotle’s revenue has close to doubled. Fans of Starbucks are hoping to see this improvement there as well.
“I’m not personally a fan of either, but I do think that this will be a good change for Starbucks and that Chipotle will stay the same,” said sophomore Vittorio Buttice.
Times were different when Niccol led Chipotle as inflation was lower. Now with Starbucks he will be facing a greater challenge not only with pricier drinks but also Starbucks has around 38, 000 stores worldwide. Niccol will be managing a much larger number of employees, which may come with a larger number of problems. Starbucks has been critiqued many times by their customers for their pricing on drinks. Consumers argue that they could “make these coffees at home” so his main challenge will be making them see why they should choose to get their coffee from Starbucks.
“I hope that he can find a way to bring the prices down on the drinks. They have gone up a lot specifically this year,” said sophomore Sophie Yetming.
The main worry of people is now without Brian Niccol, Chipotle will be the one to fall behind and things will go badly. The new CEO for Chipotle will be their chief operating officer, Scott Boatwright. They are confident that under his managing skills things at Chipotle will continue to run smoothly.
“As long as nothing changes in a bad way, I see no reason to be worried about either one of the stores’ futures,” said sophomore Maria Nordholz
