The new film Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton, is a nostalgic movie that brings back the original 1988 classic while introducing some exciting new parts. Michael Keaton returns as Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, adding modern twist to the story.
The plot follows Lydia as she comes back to her haunted home after her father’s death. Lydia and Astrid accidentally summon Beetlejuice, leading to an adventure filled with dark humor and supernatural chaos.
“A great movie to watch with the family during Halloween time,” said Juliette Egea.
Senior Raphael Kamhi added that the film’s stunning visuals really made the movie nice to watch.
One of the standout features of the new Beetlejuice is its impressive special effects, which play a crucial role in bringing the story to life. The film combines practical effects with modern CGI to create a visually stunning experience that captures the vibe of the original.
Though it seems to be overall a popular film, not everyone agrees.
“I feel like the movie tries to pack in too much which made everything feel to clustered ,” said Madison Gaudioso.
Despite a handful of criticisms, Beetlejuice still holds the magic of the original film by offering a fun mix of humor and horror. Overall, it’s a fun movie that reminds fans why they loved the original in the first place.
According to the New York Times, most fans agree with the film which to date has earned over $190 million at the box office in only 10 days. As well as succeeding financially, it has also been hit with audiences as evidenced by the Rotten Tomatoes website ranking. Their new “Popcornmeter,” previously known as the Audience score, has given the movie an 81% favorability rating. Professional critics collectively have found Beetlejuice to have a 77% favorability ranking.
