Multiple police officers patrol the ILS campus at all times, particularly during school hours. Students can see the officers regularly during breakfast time in the cafeteria or outside as they assist with the traffic.
“While the officers are here to protect us, I’ve found it easy to become friends with a couple of them,” said sophomore Alejandro Escudero.
Since the start of the school year, at least one officer has been at the traffic light just outside the school entrance carefully managing entrances and departures. His contribution greatly increases the flow of traffic coming from the west and helps everyone get to school at a reasonable time.
“Working here at La Salle has been a good experience so far, and I am excited to come back next time,” said Officer John Smith.
Most of the time this helps reduce people getting in line from the other lanes. While most schools, both private and public, have police presence, public schools receive officers for free using taxpayer dollars, whereas at private schools, the school has to compensate them.
At ILS, officers receive free breakfast and lunch instead of the typical method of pay. The officers here on campus have slowly become an integral part of the ILS family. While the officers here occasionally change, they all still have the same friendly attitude regardless of who is working here.
ILS is lucky to have them here. Often seen in groups of up to three officers, the officers are communicating with each other and remaining vigilant in case of anything bad happens. Besides that they also tend to be in the parking lots watching and waiting for signals. Sometimes they are with some of the school staff ironing out potential security risks.
