Mission Tuesday is a campaign that aims to help needy communities in the Salesian world. Right now the focus is on struggling areas in Tampa that were recently hit by two hurricanes. First Hurricane Helene then two weeks later Hurricane Milton, both caused extensive damage to homes in the Tampa Bay Area.
The main goal of the campaign is to collect donations to directly help families rebuild their homes and lives. By donating, these contributions will play an important role in helping nearby neighbors recover from these terrible natural disasters.
“I think that it is very important to help people when they need it, especially since Tampa is so close to where we are and if you are able to give even if it’s a little, it still makes a difference in their lives,” said sophomore Maria Alonso.
The options given to students, faculty, and staff were to donate either five, ten or twenty dollars, but any donation given makes a difference. Sister Monique Huart, FMA, was in the cafeteria during lunches encouraging students to consider donating. She strongly persuaded students to donate to the cause really showing her dedication to Mission Tuesday.
“The missions are a top priority to me. I feel very passionate about it, especially we in this country who most of us have so much. I feel that it is very important to teach young people that they are so fortunate and that there are many people around the world who need help,” she said.
