While the pandemic is long gone, Covid is still present in our everyday lives, having had a lasting impact.
Nowadays ,Covid is significantly weaker and not likely to cause another pandemic.
The symptoms of Covid today continue to be very similar to the common cold.
Even though new variants have occurred, they did not become a serious threat because a majority of people have been previously infected before or had at least one dose of the Covid vaccine, both of which have greatly decreased the chances of getting infected.
Even though is Covid is much weaker now, older people are still at risk if they get infected, especially if in addition to being elderly they also have a pre-existing condition, are immuno-compromised, obese, or diabetic.
Besides physical health, Covid has also impacted other things such as procedures and mental health.
Many young have also lost some academic abilities due to falling behind when virtual learning in core subjects such as science, math, and reading resulted in huge gaps.
During the lockdown, the rate of people who were depressed increased significantly likely due to either a loved one dying or from being so isolated.
Some younger people have never fully developed the social skills needed doing virtual learning and having to stay inside for a couple of years which seriously hindered their development.
Inflation is still a challenge fluctuating since the peak of the pandemic with rising prices which only recently have started to come. Prices for everything having increased majorly from something that was once ten dollars suddenly going up to twenty. This has made eating at home a much more frequent reality than going out to eat out at a restaurant.
“If I go to one of the colleges in Miami, I’m probably gonna live with my parents,” said sophomore Gianluca Rua, reflecting on the new economic reality.
