As Spirit Week started, the ILS community got to see more students’ true colors. All across ILS, school spirit has emerged from the different grade levels. Spirit Week’s purpose is for everyone to get excited about the new school year by bringing the whole student body together, from freshmen to seniors. It creates a sense of belonging and makes students feel connected to their school.
Spirit Week is a chance to show school traditions and keep them alive. The week began with “Welcome back Monday” where students were allowed to add to their standard uniform, using green and gold accessories. The next day of Spirit Week followed up with “In Our Royal Era” where students wore the colors representative of their grade level: freshmen-purple, sophomores-orange, juniors-blue, and seniors-red. Wednesday was Safari Day, Thursday was Tropical Day, and Friday culminates with ILS Spirit Wear showcasing ILS sports, clubs, or honor societies.
Why do you think it’s important for students and staff to take part during Spirit Week?
“It’s good to show your pride in our school and our school spirit. You need to be proud of where you’re learning,” said by sophomore Maria Castro.
Why should the faculty and staff take part if Spirit Week is for students?
Because when students see staff dressed up, laughing, and joining the fun, it inspires the students to do the same.
“Staff involvement makes the week more memorable and helps strengthen the connection between teachers and students,” said Activities Director Mrs. Elizabeth Vuono and Math teacher Ms. Lexi Quintero, the two Student Government moderators.
Why is it important for Spirit Week to happen some time during the school year?
Spirit Week is something students look forward to and it makes them excited to attend school. Spirit Week is also an introduction to your student body government of all grades. During Spirit Week, freshmen have an opportunity to run for student government which is an important part of high school. Not only is Spirit Week important for those matters, but it is a core memory for everyone especially the freshmen as it is their first Spirit Week.
What are your opinions on your first Spirit Week?
Sophomore Kareem Forbes, one of the transfers experiencing his first Spirit Week said that, “It was a great experience and I’m excited for Homecoming as I know my friends are going to go all out.”
Spirit Week isn’t about costumes, games, or friendly competitions— it is about building connections. From freshmen experiencing it for the first time to seniors enjoying their last, the week brings students together in a way that highlights the pride within the school. As the final cheers fade, what remains is more than school spirit— it is a reminder of the energy, creativity, and community that make high school memorable.
