Hello, Storm,
School can be stressful when there is a lot of homework, but having breaks can help ease our minds. Taking care of yourself is one of the most important things a person can do for mental health. When times get tough, it’s important to put your peace first. Just a moment to take a breather can work wonders. Even lions have to take breaks from running around all day. Here are several tips to calm down, reflect, and recharge.
Go Outside
Whether it’s walking, reading under a tree, enjoying a picnic, or even sitting on a porch, being outside has been scientifically proven to lower stress, increase serotonin for mood regulation, and even lower blood pressure. Nature has a unique way of calming us down and allowing our heads to clear. Just imagine: A beautiful outdoor setting complete with green grass, birds chirping, and flowers swaying in the breeze.
Writing and Journaling
Scribble scribble! Writing can be as delicious as a Skittle! Whether you write a poem, a story, or just a wall of words, writing is an effective way of processing stress and feelings. Think of it as a silent expression of feelings for your mind. It allows us to think about ourselves and reflect on what we can do to get back up again. It allows our mind to piece everything together. It has been found that writing can help manage anxiety, lift depression, enhance cognitive function, and allow for creativity.
Doing Light Stretches
Flex, flex! Stretching is a perfect way to release any muscle tension or stiffness. Give your back, arms, and legs some gentle twists to remove any tension or soreness. Stretching has been linked to increased blood flow, relaxation, improved flexibility, decreased soreness, and improved posture. No matter what kind of stretch you do, keep in mind to rehydrate and keep physical limitations in mind. It’s important not to overdo it. YouTube offers videos for low-intensity and gentle stretching methods.
No matter how you choose to relax, whether you stretch, read under a tree, or even scribble, you matter! Always keep in mind to take breaks. Stay strong, Royals!
