Swimming: Strong Performances Highlight Swim Meet for Royals
The swim team put on a solid showing this weekend, with several standout performances and podium finishes across multiple events.
Emma Larralde led the team with two dominant wins. She took first place in the 50 freestyles with a time of 28.59 and followed it up with another first-place finish in the 100 breaststrokes, clocking in at 1:16.55. Barbara Espinal also had a strong meet, grabbing second place in the 100 freestyles with a time of 1:12.42, and placing third in the 100 backstroke at 1:21.07. In the backstroke events, Kristen Bachman claimed second place in the 100 backstrokes with a time of 1:14.65. While she swam the 100 freestyles, no official time was recorded, though she completed the event.
On the boys’ side, Brandon Pena competed in two freestyle events. He finished seventh in the 50 free with a 56.90 and posted a time of 2:15.77 in the 100 freestyle.
With several top three finishes and strong efforts all around, the team continues to show improvement and competitiveness in the pool.
Volleyball: La Salle Sweeps American Heritage in Straight Sets
La Salle continued its strong start to the season with a dominant straight-set victory over American Heritage, winning 25-20, 25-12, 25-20 to improve to 4-1 on the year.
Sofia Dean ran the offense efficiently, dishing out 20 assists while also contributing 4 aces, 5 digs, and a kill. Sara Moreno led the attack with 9 kills, added a block, and picked up 8 digs. Gaby Vonteuber anchored the defense with 11 digs and served up 3 aces. Elena Figueroa added 6 digs in the win.
La Salle’s balanced play on both sides of the court proved too much for American Heritage, as the team showcased its depth and cohesion in a convincing performance.
Football: Team Rolls Past Belen Jesuit 34–3
In a statement victory over longtime rival Belen Jesuit, the team delivered a complete performance on both sides of the ball, cruising to a 34–3 win.
Top Performers: Quarterback Nate Merrell Jr. led the offensive charge with poise and precision, completing 10 of 18 passes for 149 yards and 3 touchdowns. His top target was Tyrone Williams, who hauled in 6 catches for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a long of 26 yards. Jayvion Robinson also added to the scoreboard with a touchdown reception.
On the ground, Adrian Cox powered the rushing attack with 21 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown, consistently breaking tackles and moving the chains. Merrell also contributed with his legs, adding 40 rushing yards, including a 32-yard scamper.
The defense stifled Belen Jesuit throughout the night, allowing just 41 total passing yards and forcing an interception return for a touchdown by Antwan Jones (43 yards). The run defense was equally dominant, holding the opposition to just 21 rushing yards on 20 attempts, and forcing a fumble.
This emphatic win not only reinforces the team’s dominance in the rivalry but also sets the tone heading into the rest of the season.

Wednesday, September 10, 2025: Girls Volleyball hosts FCS for a 3:30/5PM start.
Swim team travels to St. Brendan for a 2PM warm up and 3PM start. (12:15 dismissal – 3rd lunch to 2nd lunch)
Thursday, September 11, 2025: Football team hosts District Opponent Booker T. Washington. 7:00PM Kick off.
XC team is back in action for the King of the Hill race at Tropical Park. (1:15PM Dismissal)
Golf travels to Crandon for girls only match with Carrollton and Lourdes. 3PM tee time. (1:30PM dismissal)
Varsity Volleyball leaves for Tampa to the Florida Gem tournament.
