IShowSpeed kicked off his “Speed Does America” Tour August 28, with a wild first day featuring a surprise appearance by 2x NFL MVP Lamar Jackson here at ILS. IShowSpeed and Lamar headed out to the field, where they threw passes, ran drills, and lit up the crowd of fans, mostly basketball and football players.
What was the overall student reaction when IShowSpeed and Lamar Jackson showed up at their football field?
Jayden Noel, a senior and one of the star football players, was lucky enough to go 1-on-1 with IShowSpeed in a few quick matchups—winning one of them over the YouTube sensation.
“It was a really fun and crazy experience. The students were happy to see IShowSpeed and Lamar Jackson at the football field. I thought it was great seeing them come to our school,” he said.
Sophomore Michael Lopez, one of ILS’s standout basketball players, was unfortunately not part of the stream due to having physical therapy. He did, however, get to see the celebrities on the field.
“Honestly, I personally think its whatever because at ILS athletes and celebrities pop by every now and then,” recalled Lopez.
Evan Myrtil, a sophomore on the Varsity Baseball team, was speechless when he first found out IShowSpeed and Lamar Jackson visited ILS.
“I was at home in my pajamas, watching Speed run around Miami for like two hours. I was having such a fun time sending donations. When Speed said, ‘We’re pulling up to a school,’ and five minutes later, he’s at my school’s field barking, with Lamar Jackson throwing bombs. I just sat there, like, ‘There’s no way I just spent two hours watching his Miami tour just to miss them turning my school into a movie,’ he said.
The surprise visit from IShowSpeed and Lamar Jackson turned an ordinary day at ILS into an unforgettable moment. Whether students were on the field or watching from home, it’s a day no one will forget anytime soon.
