ILS is known to have several athletes who balance schoolwork and sports, whether it be for the school teams or clubs. When students think of sports the first thing that comes to mind is the generic sports: soccer, basketball, baseball, and so many others. A sport that many people do not notice much is the Olympic sport of fencing. It is a sport that has no team at ILS and many people do not participate as a result. However, there are always people who participate in all kinds of sports.
Junior Adrian Suarez , for one, is a proud participant in the sport of fencing. He began when he was five-years-old after being inspired by his father who is an Olympian in the sport. Adrian has stated he has a great passion for fencing and even has competed across the globe, especially in Europe.
Adrian expresses how fencing makes him feel emotionally:
Adrian speaks of his hobby in a great way and is determined to be the very best at it even while balancing AP and Honors courses here at ILS. The best way to balance classes and hobbies is to have friends along the way who support their comrades in all times and have belief in them.
Junior Adriel Stanziola has hope for his friend Adrian’s career in fencing.
Adriel tells of his fascination in what Adrian has done and hopes for even greater things to come from it.
Another junior, Antonio Murcia states his curiosity for fencing.
“I think it’s kind of a cool sport. It’s not really famous, but it’s cool how it works and kind of like sword fighting. I think Adrian’s going to do really well in the future and is doing great right now.”
The positive comments only prove that Adrian is determined for whatever is to come and is talented at fencing. Hopefully, one day he will, as he hopes, be able to participate at the Olympics.
