ILS students danced, cheered, and celebrated at annual Miracle Walk 2025, the school’s own version of the Down Syndrome Association of Miami 5K which is typically held in downtown Coral Gables.
Last Wednesday we had our Down syndrome walk. It was a day filled with fun, heartfelt moments, dance and so much love. We welcomed many of our friends for a fun day. Today I will share my experience as a freshman volunteer,
They called participants down to the gym at the beginning of F block where they then went out to the field to welcome friends from the Learning Experience with a parade, cheerleaders, and the band cheering them on. Volunteers stood in two lines and cheered them as they entered. “Wowwwww,” everyone said as they entered. It was extremely heartwarming seeing them so happy.

After welcoming the visitors from the Learning Experience, they completed a short lap around the football field, where they talked to them, and got them excited. Volunteers talked to them, and joked around with them then had a little dance party. Volunteers danced with them and sang with them to their favorite songs.
“I like Taylor Swift a lot,” said Sabrina one of the visitors from the Learning Experience.
While there, playing one of the visiting girls, Isa, hugged one of the volunteer students.
Some volunteers became a bit teary-eyed because with all of the challenges these kids and adults face, they are so happy. All of them served as a living reminder that even if there are many difficulties in life, there is always love and joy somewhere.
“It was a beautiful morning when we opened our campus and our hearts to so many amazing young people, “ said teacher Dr. Cristina Lopez-Hernandez.
This year’s Miracle Walk was one that was full of so much love and joy.
Until next year, go Royals!
