As Halloween approaches, Miami neighborhoods are preparing so that kids can show off their costumes and have fun. From Coral Gables to Coconut Grove, there are many popular trick-or-treating spots.
“Coral Gables is my favorite place for trick-or-treating and I go every year,” said sophomore Maria Nordholz Jimenez. “The houses go all out, a lot of candy, fog machines, and even some amazing decorations.”
In Coconut Grove, historic streets like Main Highway and Oak Avenue fill with people from 5 p.m. until the next day.
“In Coconut Grove there are a lot of people so it can get crowded, but the amazing houses make up for it,” said sophomore Camila Echeverri. “The police sometimes close some streets, to keep people safe as an extra safety measure.”
The City of South Miami has recently become more popular since the start of their “Safe Streets Halloween” program, which makes areas into pedestrian-only zones that people can celebrate Halloween freely in.
“I go to the City of South Miami because I don’t have to worry about traffic” said junior Julia Alemany who drives to ILS. “
Want to see if your costume is any good? Go to the Design Districts Spooktacular Costume Contest. Many people who are proud of their costumes compete every year to see who truly has the best costume. It also includes other Halloween celebrations making it a great place to go trick-or-treating in Miami.
And finally, in Doral, neighborhoods like Vanderbilt Park and Downtown Doral host trick-or-treat routes to keep everything organized. These routes have ensured that no accidents happen, and they make sure that the houses on the route are embracing the Halloween spirit.
