Immaculata-La Salle High School juniors recently paused their rigorous academic schedules for a transformative on-campus retreat focused on Connection: With Self, Others, and God. As a vital part of the Archdiocese of Miami Catholic Schools commitment to holistic formation, the event provided a necessary spiritual anchor for the Class of 2027 as they navigate the demands of their upperclassman years.
“My favorite part of the Junior Encounter was all the fun activities we did as a class together and recreation time,” said Emma Larralde.
The day-long retreat utilized a variety of reflective and interactive sessions designed to foster a deeper community and personal faith. Activities included small group discussions facilitated by senior peer ministers and faculty, allowing students to share personal challenges and triumphs in a trusted environment. These sessions emphasized the Salesian core values of community and zeal for service, encouraging the juniors to see their classmates and school community as an extension of their spiritual journey.
“My favorite part of the Junior Encounter was all the fun games in the gym and spending time with my friends,” said Krystal Inhoof.
A central component of the experience was dedicated time for personal reflection and prayer, anchored by themes of gratitude and discernment. Students were guided through meditations on Scripture, particularly focusing on the meaning of vocation and their individual relationship with God. Campus Ministry staff led a powerful prayer service, culminating in an opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, offering a tangible moment of spiritual renewal.
I realized that a connection with God and my friends is what makes me happy, and Junior Encounter Day was a perfect reminder of that.
Students left the retreat with a renewed sense of purpose and stronger bonds, understanding that their connection with one another is intrinsically tied to their shared faith. The experience reinforced Immaculata-La Salle’s mission to shape young men and women of conscience, competence, and compassion, prepared to lead and serve within the broader Catholic tradition. The success of the retreat underscores the school’s dedication to nurturing the complete person, body, mind, and spirit.
