This week at ILS is STEAM week, a week held once a year dedicated to the STEAM program, a program committed to teaching students about the concepts of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. To celebrate STEAM week, ILS hosted the STEAM playground Wednesday, November 5, to focus on all the paths STEAM has to offer. Students gathered in the SLC to explore the activities and challenges all the classes put on display for this special day. Activities that took place during the playground included performing CPR on mannequins (adults and children) for the health and fitness class, reading off a teleprompter and editing the video for LTV, and imitating a crime scene and investigating the evidence for the legal studies class.
Many students greatly enjoy STEAM, seeing it as a wonderful opportunity to explore their dreams all while having fun and engaging in varied learning experiences.
“I think STEAM is a very cool program to take, and since it’s a college class, it’s perfect for me. I’m in the anatomy path and it’s really fun to learn more about anatomy since I love the subject and the way Mr. Companioni teaches it,” said Christian Perez, a sophomore.
“I’m in the STEAM program because I want to learn more about sports medicine. Eventually, I would like to become a sports trainer. I think the STEAM program does an excellent job teaching students who might be interested in this path, or many other paths as well,” said Samuel Armas, a sophomore.
“The STEAM playground is a great opportunity to showcase all the STEAM classes for kids to learn about and encouraging them to want to join the program,” said Dr. Rebecca Shaw, the Dean of STEAM.
