At the ILS STEAM Playground, students explore science, technology, engineering and art, through activities that help people understand. Every station does its own thing and invites participants engage and learn in a fun environment.
At the health science table, junior Camila Echeverri had a station that teaches about the types of tissues in the human body.
“The microscopes are there so you can see the types of tissues in the body yourself,” she said.
For Camila, this isn’t just a typical presentation,
“I find it really interesting that each type of tissue has so many different characteristics and functions that help support your body,” she said demonstrating her passion for the topic. “I chose to do this so I could educate people about the types tissues since I loved learning about them.”
In the back is the LTV station where students can go to see the process of making LTV.
“The purpose is for people to get a little taste of what it’s like to do LTV, both on the recording and editing side,” said Mrs. Elizabeth Adams, one of two LTV teacher at ILS.
“I find it interesting that you can experience what it’s like to be on camera, but then you also see the work that goes into making a polished product,” she added.
The LTV station engages participants by allowing them to first say lines in front of a camera, then seeing how the LTV team edits and prepares the videos.
In another area is the composting presentation.
Senior Amy Pichardo explained the process to visitors.
“The purpose is to educate the public on composting as well as practice our own presentation skills,” she said.
Many presenters enjoy presenting so they can educate people about certain topics.
Amy shared her favorite aspect.
“I like getting to answer people’s questions because it shows that they are paying attention.”
Through each activity, the STEAM Playground engages both presenter and audience, educating visitors about interesting and important things. These interactive stations can help students develop new interests or learn more about what they already like.
