The Student Learning Center – A Space for Quiet Innovation

Two teachers sit quietly in the Student Learning Center, working. A simple, but exemplary representation of the atmosphere of the SLC. A place for innovation, a place for collaboration, but most of all, a place for focus, rest, and commitment.

Senior Rafael Murta sits in his SLC “pod,” designed for injured students to take their virtual classes. Rafa, representing many other injured students, is a star soccer player for the Royals, but recently tore his ACL in a game. Steadily on the road to recovery, Rafa focuses in on his class, trying not to fall behind in a difficult situation, like many around him. (Manola Prat)

Glasses, an iPad, a pen, and an interview about peace amidst war sit quietly on a desk in the SLC. Abandoned temporarily, the items, while seemingly insignificant, reveal the subtle weight to many school assignments amidst political turmoil around the world. (Manola Prat)
