F Block has become a regular part of the school day, offering students a flexible period to focus on academics, recharge mentally, or take advantage of school resources. As a free block, it allows students to move to designated areas of the school and manage their time independently. While the intention of F Block is to support student productivity and well-being, opinions on its effectiveness vary widely.
Some students believe the block could be better used or adjusted, especially for seniors. Senior Michael Libera-Tait shared that he feels F Block is “pointless” and thinks seniors should be released early or allowed to leave campus during the block.
“We could use the time to be a brain break,” Libera-Tait said, emphasizing the mental strain students experience throughout the day. Nico Kleideman echoed this sentiment, stating, “I feel as though the seniors could be able to leave during F Block. I would go and do homework, but in the comfort of my home.”
Others enjoy F Block but see room for improvement. Wendell Copeland explained, “F Block is good. I like it on regular days too, but on Day Two A we should be able to leave.” He also suggested turning F Block into “a situation where we do different activities,” giving students more structured and engaging options.
Student athletes highlighted additional possibilities for the time. Jonny Quintana believes F Block could support athletic development, saying, “For athletes, we should be able to use the weight room or practice.”
Senior Pablo Tamara feels the same.
“I feel like we should keep it as is,” he said.
Senior Rod Ordorica has mixed views.
“I think that it’s good, maybe. A bit of a waste of time. It is a good idea, but students don’t use it for what it is worth.
A Personal Perspective
As a student athlete myself I actually appreciate F Block for what it is. I do sports, as well as work weekly and F Block helps me get my work done during my school day since I do not have much time outside of school to allocate to doing work.. In F Block, I make sure to finish everything on my to-do list,s and it helps me feel as though weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
Overall, F Block provides students with valuable flexibility, but feedback suggests that increased options and privileges could help it better serve the student body.
