On January 24th, ILS celebrated its third annual Salesian Pig Roast. The Pig Roast may seem like a minor event at ILS, but to many others it is an important and family orientated part of the ILS school year.
The real question people might have is what the pig roast is. The Salesian Pig Roast has taken place every year since 2024. At this event, various groups gather together and form teams to cook a pig and see whose is the best. Then the judges vote on who will win in different categories. These teams are not just parents or faculty from ILS, but groups that constantly compete in pig roast contests around Miami.
The event brings enjoyment to students who attend for a good time with friends, family, and the overall Salesian feeling from ILS.
said Junior Madison Press.
Family and friendly time is what ILS enjoys the most and hopes to bring out of the Salesian Pig Roast, expressing the love and fun Don Bosco wished for all to have.
Students who attend the pig roast are enriched with different flavors of food: Pork, Cool n’Creamy ice cream, coffee, hot dogs, burgers, and more. It is also important to recognize the volunteers and parents who shape the pig roast and organize it to make it the best it can be.
ILS Parent and Volunteer, Mrs. Barbra Rocha, shares her feeling on the pig roast and her excitement for its future.
:
Volunteering and helping pass out tickets was fun for the parent volunteers, but not a simple task as swarms of people continuously entered the pig roast eager for a day of eating and having fun.
The parents assist in organizing the event, but a round of applause is owed to the ILS Parent Liaison Kelly Gold who helped with all the planning and setup to make the pig roast a great day.
Ms. Kelly Gold explains her love for the Salesian Pig Roast and what it means to her and her role at ILS.
:
The Salesian Pig Roast overall assists students by providing a day of fun, food, and arts and crafts, alumni by bringing them back to their home, and faculty and staff by bringing them fun and funding that will help the school community for years to come.
