MIAMI — The Miami Dolphins have been busy making changes to their roster as they get ready for the 2026 NFL season.
After cutting the roster down to 53 players, Miami continued making moves. The Dolphins released several veterans and waived a number of younger players while also bringing in new players to compete for spots. The moves have given the team a much different look heading into the regular season.
The team also claimed seven players off waivers, including quarterback Brady Cook and cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr., while signing edge rusher Malik Herring. These additions give Miami more competition at several positions and offer the coaching staff more options as the season gets closer.
Miami’s front office has continued making changes even after the initial roster deadline. Several players were added to the practice squad Sept. 1, illustrating that the Dolphins are still looking for ways to improve the team. Players on the practice squad can also have a chance to move up to the active roster if the team needs them during the season.
The Dolphins are entering the season with a much different roster than last year. With a new front office and coaching staff, Miami is clearly focused on building a younger team and giving new players opportunities. The changes also show that the organization is willing to move on from players who were part of the team in previous seasons.
Now, the focus will shift from roster decisions to the regular season. The Dolphins will have to see how their new players fit together once the games begin.
The Dolphins open the regular season Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. The game will give Miami its first chance to see how the new-look roster performs in a real NFL game. After all the recent changes, fans will be watching closely to see what this new Dolphins team can do.
