Under the bright lights of Immaculata-La Salle High School, football players step onto the field with more than just a jersey on their backs. They carry the support, trust, and memories of the people standing beside them. At ILS, football is not simply about winning games. It is about building a family.
From long practices to Friday night games, the players spend countless hours together. They push each other when practices get difficult, celebrate together after a great play and encourage one another when things do not go as planned. Over time, teammates become more than people sharing the same field. They become brothers.
For many players, the strongest part of football is knowing that someone will always have their back.
That bond does not stop with the players. The ILS football family reaches across the sidelines, bringing together coaches, cheerleaders, students, teachers and families who show up to support the team.
The cheerleaders are an important part of that atmosphere. They spend games encouraging the players, celebrating their successes and keeping the energy alive, creating a connection between the field and the stands.
“Being around the football team, you can really see how close everyone is. They support each other, and that makes you feel like you are part of something bigger,” said Brianna Puglisi, an ILS cheerleader.
Aspen Hernández, another ILS cheerleader, has also seen how the relationships built through football extend beyond the game.
“It feels like one big family because everyone is there for each other. Even when the game is over, the friendships and memories stay with you,” Aspen said.
Those memories are what make high school football special. Years from now, players may not remember every score or every play, but they will remember the teammates who stood beside them, the cheers from the sidelines and the feeling of being part of something together.
Football teaches players how to communicate, trust and sacrifice for one another. A successful play requires every person to do their part, just like a family depends on everyone to support one another.
At ILS, the football field becomes more than a place to compete. It becomes a place where friendships grow, confidence is built and memories are made.
Because when the final whistle blows, the scoreboard may show who won the game—but it cannot measure the friendships created along the way.
For the players at Immaculata-La Salle, football is not just a team.
It is family.
