Inter Miami had a much-needed win this weekend, beating CF Montréal 7–1 on Saturday. The team had been struggling, going five games without a win, and had also recently gone through a coaching change after Javier Mascherano left the club. Despite the problems plaguing the team, Lionel Messi put together one of his best performances of the season, scoring four goals and one assist, helping Miami control the game from start to finish. He scored his first goal before halftime and continued to make an impact throughout the second half.

Messi’s four goals were especially impressive because he is now 39-years-old. Even though he is near the end of his career, he showed that he can still score goals and make a major difference in important games. His performance also moved him to the top of the MLS scoring charts with 18 goals.

Matteo Heller, a goalkeeper for the Inter Miami u17 academy said, “I think the team played really well and even though Inter lost their coach recently, they handled the situation really well and I think the future looks really bright for them.”

Nicolas Korda, a fan of soccer watched the game and said, “I was very surprised that Messi at this age still has the same talent and spark he’d always had, and I’m happy to see Miami win.”

Junior Samuel Armas, another soccer fan said, “I watched the game and I couldn’t believe what I was watching. It’s not very typical for someone to score four goals especially someone at that age.”

The 7–1 result gave Inter Miami some confidence after a difficult stretch. With the team dealing with changes on and off the field, the win was an important one. Messi’s performance also showed that, despite his age, he can still be one of the most dangerous players in the league.
