Here’s your sports report and sports schedule.
Golf: This week the Royal Lion boys golf team was invited to play in the Wolverine Classic hosted by Belen at Deering Bay featuring 10 schools and 50 individuals. The team was led by sophomore Quentin Blanchet who shot a 79 which included 3 birdies to finish inside the top 20 and senior Federico Gil with a score of 85.

Swimming: Swimming had a great day in the pool at St. Brendan High School, competing alongside Downtown Doral in a competitive meet.
The Royals had several strong individual and relay performances throughout the event. On the girls’ side, Emma Laralde competed in the 100 Butterfly (1:38.64), Sabina Morelli swam the 100 Freestyle (1:47.12), Andrea Gonzalez took on the 500 Freestyle (7:43.53), and Kristen Bachmann competed in the 100 Breaststroke (2:03.53).
For the boys, Luis Armas Medina competed in both the 50 Freestyle (41.42) and 100 Breaststroke (2:23.42), while Nicolas Jabali raced the 50 Freestyle (43.01), Andres Alexander competed in the 100 Freestyle (1:45.00) and 100 Backstroke (2:03.60), and Matias Conde swam the 100 Breaststroke (2:25.50).
The Royals also competed in several relay events, including the women’s 200 IM relay (3:17.38), women’s 200 Freestyle relay (2:58.25), and men’s 200 Freestyle relay (3:02.01).
It was another valuable opportunity for our swimmers to gain experience, compete against quality competition, and continue building toward a strong season. Keep raising the Royal Standard!
Cross Country: For the boys’ team, in a race featuring 300+ runners, leading the way was Felipe Garcia-Correa dropped his time almost 2 minutes from his previous race to finish in 29th place overall with a time of 18:44. Benjamin Pieri finished in 90th place with a time of 20:40. The boys finished in 20th place out of 30 teams.
For the girls’ team, in a race featuring 250+ runner, leading the way was super freshman Guillermina Quinteros finishing in 45th place with a time of 24:00 and in her debut Elina Quirno-Costa ran a 28:27. The girls finished 19th place out of 25 teams.
Volleyball: The Royals battled through another tough match this week, continuing to work through some challenges early in the season. While the results have not been what the team has hoped for, the opportunities to grow and improve continue to be there.
This week presents a great chance for the Royals to turn the page, with multiple opportunities to compete at home before heading into the FL GEM Tournament. Facing strong competition throughout the week and at the tournament will give the team valuable experience and an opportunity to build confidence, find its rhythm, and continue developing as a team.
The season is still young, and there is plenty of volleyball left to play.
Football: Royals Stay Perfect, Improve to 4-0
The Royal Lions took on their first district opponent of the season last Friday, and they continued their hot start with a 33-13 victory over Gulliver Prep to improve to 4-0 on the season.
The Royals came out firing, scoring first and jumping out to an early 14-0 lead. Gulliver responded with a long touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 14-7, but the Royals quickly answered as Jaylen Wilson broke loose for a dynamic touchdown run, extending the lead to 21-7.
With just seven seconds remaining in the first half, Gulliver blocked a Royal kick and returned it for a touchdown. After a missed extra point, the teams headed into halftime with the Royals holding a 21-13 advantage.
The second half belonged to the Royal defense.
ILS came up with two crucial goal-line stands, refusing to let Gulliver back into the game and preserving the lead while the offense worked to add some breathing room. The Royals eventually found the end zone twice in the second half, while the defense continued to shut down Gulliver’s offense.
The Royal Lions closed out the night with a 33-13 victory, improving to 4-0 and earning their first district win of the season.
The Royals are rolling.
