The UEFA Champions League is back, bringing some of the biggest soccer clubs in Europe together for another exciting competition. This year, 36 clubs will compete for the trophy, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Arsenal, and defending champions, Paris Saint-Germain.
Paris Saint-Germain enters the tournament after winning back-to-back Champions League titles in 2025 and 2026. PSG defeated Arsenal in the final and had several players who stood out throughout the competition. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was named the tournament’s Player of the Season after finishing with 10 goals and six assists.
Arsenal was another standout club last year. The English side reached the final after a strong run through the knockout stages. Bukayo Saka was one of Arsenal’s most important players and scored a key goal against Atlético Madrid in the semifinals.
This year, several clubs will be looking to take the trophy away from PSG. Real Madrid has a long history in the competition, winning the European Cup and Champions League 15 times. Bayern Munich and Liverpool have also won the trophy multiple times, while Barcelona will be hoping to make another deep run.
”I hope Barcelona can win the Champions League for the first time since 2015,” sophomore and Barcelona fan Mateo Lartigue said.
There are also many stars to watch. Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal is coming off an impressive European campaign after scoring six goals and recording four assists last season. Manchester City will once again depend on Erling Haaland, who has been one of the most productive goal scorers in Europe since joining the club.
”I want to see my favorite player, Luis Díaz, become the top scorer for Bayern Munich,” sophomore David Sierra said.
With historic clubs, young stars and experienced players all competing, this year’s tournament has plenty of storylines. Fans will have to wait until the final stages to see which club can make it all the way to the final and lift the famous trophy.
