Summer 2026 has officially come to an end which means it is time to look back at everything that happened over the past few months. With the last day of summer passing on September 22, fall is now here and school is back in session for many students. This summer was full of big sports events, social media trends, world news, and plenty of things for people to talk about.
One of the biggest events was the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which took place across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Millions of fans watched their favorite teams compete, while social media was filled with highlights, memes and reactions. Spain eventually won the tournament after beating Argentina 1-0 in the final.

”I was really sad to see Argentina lose the World Cup final because I wanted Messi to go back-to-back,” sophomore Nicolas Korda said.
Basketball was also a huge part of the summer. The NBA Finals had fans watching closely as the New York Knicks faced the San Antonio Spurs. The Knicks won the series 4-1, giving the team its first championship in 53 years. The games also created tons of clips and discussions online.
”I was really happy because some of my family is from New York so I was calling them when the Knicks won the Finals,” sophomore Damian Medal said.
Movies were also a big part of summer 2026, with several major releases bringing audiences to theaters. Spider-Man: Brand New Day followed Peter Parker as he faced new challenges while trying to balance his life as a superhero. The Odyssey brought Homer’s famous ancient Greek adventure to the big screen, while Backrooms stood out as a creepy horror film based on the internet phenomenon about strange, endless spaces.
”I was so excited for Spider-Man, and it did not disappoint,” sophomore Devin Ampudia said.

Social media was basically everywhere this summer. TikTok, Instagram, and other apps were filled with new memes, songs, sports clips and random trends that seemed to appear overnight. A lot of these trends spread so quickly that something popular one week could already be forgotten the next.
There was also plenty of serious news happening around the world. Extreme heat, international conflicts, trade disagreements and political debates continued to make headlines. In the United States, President Donald Trump and other government officials were involved in discussions about tariffs and foreign relations.
Overall, dummer 2026 had a little bit of everything. Between the FIFA World Cup, the NBA Finals, viral trends, and major news stories, there was always something happening. Now that summer is over, it is time to move into fall and see what comes next.
