One play changed everything for the Miami Dolphins.
De’Von Achane, one of Miami’s biggest offensive weapons, suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during the Dolphins’ 24-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs . The injury ended Achane’s 2026 season and left the Dolphins without one of their most explosive players.
Achane was injured early in the game after a 11-yard run. He finished the game with only three carries for 17 yards before leaving the field and did not return. Miami placed him on injured reserve the following day.
Jayden Guerrero said “It’s terrible to see him out for the season this early because he had a lot of potential.”
The timing of the injury makes it even more difficult for Miami. Achane entered the season coming off the best rushing year of his career, with 1,350 rushing yards, 488 receiving yards and 12 total touchdowns in 2025. He was also selected to his first Pro Bowl and was named a Dolphins team captain for 2026.
The Dolphins also showed their confidence in Achane this offseason by giving him a four-year, $64 million contract extension. He was expected to be a major part of Miami’s offense and future. But Francisco Garcia Fiorini thinks otherwise.
“He wasn’t going to do much anyways,” he said which is surprising because most people think he was gonna go all the way.
Now, Miami has to find a way to replace him. Ollie Gordon II will likely see an increased role after rushing for 41 yards and a touchdown against Kansas City. Other players, including Jaylen Wright, could also receive more opportunities as the season continues.
Andrew Brito said, “I hope the Dolphins draft Jasen Lopez to replace Achane for next season.”
For Dolphins’ fans, Achane’s injury is more than just another name added to the injury list. His speed and playmaking ability made him one of the most exciting players on the team. With Miami already starting the season 0-3, losing its star running back creates another major challenge for a team trying to turn its season around.
Achane’s season is over, but the Dolphins will now have to prove they can keep moving forward without the player who was expected to help lead their offense.
