Last Friday afternoon, the ILS softball team traveled to face a district opponent, Carol City. The team picked up a dominant 21-2 victory in what might have been their final game of the season.

With uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus, the Lady Royal Lions cast those thoughts aside and focused on the game at hand last Friday. Their

The team was led by senior Alexandra Tsotsos, who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Tsotsos connected on a double and a grand slam home run. Senior Jayleen Peraza also had an impressive day at the plate. She went 4-for-5 and scored each time she made it on base.

Junior Kamila Betz chipped in with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate, including a massive home run.

The winning pitcher was senior Yasmine Regueira, who only allowed three hits in four innings of work. She struck out six of the batters she faced.

This was the softball team’s most complete effort of the season, and it was a great win for the team, lead by their seniors.

As of right now the Spring seasons aren’t over, but they’ve been suspended indefinitely in the hopes that we return to school. FHSAA is sending out updates keeping the schools informed. All school facilities, including, gym, track and field, will continue to be closed.

ILS Athletic Director Nick Fernandez hopes students, faculty and staff remain active during the quarantine.

“We do encourage all athletes, students and teachers to continue to stay active during this time at home,” said Fernandez. “There are a lot of indoor workouts people could do to stay active without having to go to the gym.”
