‘New Girl’ Among the Best Binge-able Sitcoms Out There
April 29, 2021
The show “New Girl” stars Zooey Deschanel as a recently dumped 30-something who moves into an apartment with three guys she met on Craigslist. “New Girl” is a sitcom created by Elizabeth Meriwether and produced by 20th Television for the Fox that originally aired between 2011 and 2018, and it’s found new life as a binge-able come on Netflix.
Jess is a cutesy wacko and her roommates – Max Greenfield’s Schmidt, Jake Johnson’s Nick and Lamorne Morris’ Winston – are three normal guys who all come together to form a show about four broke, down-on-their-luck lunatics who are never far away from some kind of incomprehensible chaos.
Episode-by-episode, the show’s first season gets exponentially better, introducing bizarre drinking games and new romantic interests who serve to expose the childish natures of the show’s main characters.
As we see the dishevelled Nick obsess over Mulroney’s rich, urbane Russell, and the polka dot-clad Jess fight with Caplan’s Julia, the show begins to prove itself as a surprisingly canny interrogator of all the varying, and conflicting, shades of masculinity and femininity that exist in the world.
Soon, the show becomes faster and more insane, each of the four main actors proving themselves gifted physical comedians able to play off each other with ease.
I watch quite a few shows and this one genuinely gets a smile on my face without cheap tricks, fake laughter, and annoying punchline tunes trying to convince me what just happened was funny.
The main characters in this show are already memorable from the start. They just have chemistry straight away which ultimately makes the series magnetic.
Senior Sophia Sullivan believes everyone should watch this show because it had her cracking up.
“I would definitely recommend this show. I think it’s one of the best comedy shows I have seen in my entire life. Every single episode is hilarious. The writers do not miss once,” said Sullivan.
The crowd seems to love all the characters and their natural chemistry with each other.
Senior Sofia Arteaga loves Schmidt and believes his character is the funniest in the show,
“My favorite character is Schmidt because he’s so oddly specific and detailed in what he does and says. He has a beautiful soul and it really shows,” said Arteaga,
The show features many celebrity guest appearances such as Megan Fox, Taylor Swift, Prince, and many, many more.
It is the perfect show to binge and bring out a smile on your face. It has a whopping 95% on Rotten Tomatoes for a reason! Don’t miss out.
