Senior-Freshman Day a Success

Bianca Sanz, Writer

This past Friday, April 23rd, seniors welcomed the freshman class with the school event “Senior Freshman Day.”

All Seniors who RSVP’d thru the survey with Mr. Suarez came to campus on Friday. Every student needed to complete the Safety App health screening before arriving on campus. Breakfast was served as usual from 6:45 AM-7:35 AM in the cafeteria for students and teachers. Seniors and Freshman reported to their E block for attendance and waited to be called down to the gym.

All Seniors who opted for a Virtual Day instead of attending the event took their classes virtually and had to complete assignments from Mr.De Prada. The assignments included a full page essay and a project

Students who did not compete the assignments on time or were absent for the day received a zero for the assignments,

“I chose to participate because I wanted to welcome our freshman across the same way we were welcomed freshman year,” said senior Sabrina Sousa.

Students wore their Freshmen-Senior Day shirts, which were distributed earlier last week.

The students began the day with seniors welcoming the freshman into the gym. Ms. Varese and Mr. Suarez gave students an introduction for the day and we spilt into our assigned groups. It was three to four seniors and about eight freshman per group, all organized by names of animals.

To start the day the seniors performed a skit about the years of school.

The skit started from the first day of school and ended with graduation. There were 12 students representing each year and what their parents told them during their school years such as, not sucking your thumb to not being a bully to “please graduate”.

“(The skit) really captured a humorous way of viewing our past years of school. The funniest part was when Raquel started shaving her leg at the wrong time,” said senior Sofia Nunez.

After a round of applause, we started the activities with a scavenger hunt. Students were given a list of things to take pictures with around the school such as a picture of an iguana or with one of the maintenance or Sage staff.

Following the hunt, students were given poster boards to decorate with the oratory model of the Salesian family (Church, Playground, School and Home).

After the scavenger hunt points were counted, three seniors, Emiliana Chediak, Eugenia Gonzalez, and Yaniel Rodriguez, were introduced by fellow senior Ana Marrero and they all shared their touching stories about their high school experience.

“I want the freshman to realize that ILS is a united family with a bond that can never be broken,” said Nunez. “I hope they take our advice to heart and use it for the rest of their high school experience.”

Lunch was served around 11:30 AM for freshman and dismissal was at 12:00 Noon. Seniors, though, were dismissed at 11:30 AM and were allowed to leave to eat lunch outside of school.

So thank you again to every person that participated and those staff members who made this event happen!
