Senior Dominic Sorondo Signs to Play Baseball in College
May 20, 2021
ILS senior Dominic Sorondo signed his national letter of intent to play college baseball at Middle Georgia State University. Sorondo helped lead the ILS baseball team to a 9-8 record this season.
As a four-year varsity athlete, Sorondo provided the Royal Lions with a steady presence behind the plate. Primarily a catcher during his high school career, Sorondo became one of the team’s top offensive talents by his sophomore year. It’s difficult for teams to get offensive production from the catcher position, and that’s definitely something Sorondo provided.
Sorondo posted his best numbers as a senior for ILS. He finished the 2021 season with a .432/.554/.639 slash line. His .432 batting average came in third on the team and ranked in the top-25 in all of Miami-Dade county. He led ILS in runs scored (16), walks (11) and was second in RBI (13). He hit five doubles and one of two home runs for the Royal Lions this season.
For his career, Sorondo posted a .378 batting average, with 10 doubles, two triples, one home run and 30 RBI. He made seven pitching appearances throughout his career and consistently played a solid defensive catcher.
“Dominic has been an integral part of the program since he came in as a freshman four years ago,” said ILS head baseball coach Nathan Gomez. “He is a talented young man and a compassionate human being. He will always be part of what it means to be a LaSalle Royal Lion. We wish him the best next fall as he will continue his studies and baseball career at Middle Georgia State.”
Sorondo was one of two athletes from the Class of 2021 to sign national letters of intent to compete at the college level. He joined Victoria Morera, who signed with Spring Hill College earlier this year to run cross country.
“Dominic Sorondo embodies everything we want in and ILS athlete,” said ILS Athletic Director Nick Fernandez. “He’s a hard worker, great leader, and a better person. Dominic leads by example on and off the field. Is is going to be extremely missed and we wish Dominic the absolute best as he continues on his next journey!”
Middle Georgia State University is located in Macon, Georgia. The athletics program is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Knights, as they’re known, compete in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC). This season, the MGA baseball team made it to the final day of competition in SSAC tournament but ultimately came up short.
