The Royal Lions put together a dominant performance defeating the St. John Neumann Celtics 34-14 behind a strong offensive showing and several big plays throughout that night.
QB Jaziel Polanco connected with star receiver Tyrone Williams on a 73-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring and give the Royal Lions an early 7-0 lead. The Lions continued to control the game as Darrell Godfrey scored on a 5-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 14-0.
The Celtics responded with a 20-yard touchdown pass, cutting the lead to 14-7. The Royal Lions quickly answered back. Polanco found Jayvion Robinson for a 47-yard touchdown pass, giving the Lions a 21-7 lead heading into halftime.
The Celtics came out strong in the third quarter and scored another touchdown to make the score 21-14. The Royal Lions, however, did not allow the comeback to continue with strong defense from the cornerbacks.
Godfrey scored his second touchdown of the night on a two-yard run, putting the Lions back up by two touchdowns at 28-14. The Royal Lions continued to play aggressively on offense as they looked to put the game away.
Godfrey saved his biggest play for the fourth quarter. He broke free for a 58-yard touchdown run, completing his three-touchdown performance and giving the Royal Lions a 34-14 advantage.
Polanco finished the night with two touchdown passes, connecting with Williams and Robinson for long scoring plays. Godfrey was also a major factor on the ground, scoring three touchdowns and helping the Lions control the game.
The Royal Lions’ explosive offense and ability to answer every Celtics scoring drive helped them secure a convincing 34-14 victory. The performance showed the team’s ability to make big plays and finish strong when it mattered most. This so far has been the year for the Royals to win it all.
