ILS Athletics continues strong into another week of meets and games.

After a difficult race due to weather, the Cross Country team is getting back in the game. The Girls JV team was led by Sophomore Arianna Armas, who had a total time of 27:55. The team was shy of second place by one point, placing in third out of a total of ten teams in a race with over 100 runners. Boys JV was led by Freshman Alejandro Barahona, with a time of 25:00.

Girls Varsity was led by Junior Mariam Osman  with a time of 23:56. Boys Varsity runners Pier Roca and Kennedy Garry had times of 21:08 and 21:16 respectively.

Over the weekend, Girls volleyball had a Varsity tournament, winning two of the four matches they competed in. They defeated Ronald Reagan Senior High, Coral Shores, and the Hurricanes. The team looks to continue its winning string as they head into the last two weeks of their season before the district tournament.

Last Monday, the boys’ Golf team played host to Marathon. The level of golf was high, with the number one from Marathon pushing La-Salle number one, Senior Peter Hellebrand, all the way. La Salle was able to win by four due to a score of 40 from Hellebrand along with a 57 from Junior Joaquim Rambaud and a 61 from Senior Juan Martinez.

Thursday, both the boys and girls team had their reverse fixture against SLAM and Mater Lakes at Miami Springs. Senior Mariana Naranjo put up a thought fight and used the round to improve her own game rather than worrying about the SLAM girls. Meanwhile, Hellebrand remains undefeated as we approach the last few matches before districts. Sophomore Nicholas Dominguez, Rambaud, and Martinez also produced great scores in order to give La Salle the overall win.

ILS Swim also competed against Coral Shores last week. Rachel Larralde won second place in 100 freestyle race and Junior Mariam Osman won first place in 500 yards freestyle along with second in the 500 yards freestyle. Larralde and Osman placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in 100 yards breaststroke. Also, Junior Pablo Lopez Franco placed 1st in 200 yards Individual Medley and 100 yards backstroke. In the girls 400 yards freestyle relay (Senior Catalina and  Junior Juliana Lujan-Rodriguez, Senior Madison Walsh and Osman) won 1st place in an impressive come back at the very last 25 yards lap.

The ILS Football team also continues their winning streak with a final score of 47-6 against the undefeated Somerset South Homestead. The boys scored 21 unanswered points in the first quarter alone, starting with a 42-yard touchdown catch from Senior Aris Angelo to Junior Preston Landry. Angelo also hit Junior Demetrius Johnson for a 2-yard pass for another touchdown in the first. Ending the first quarter, defense got on board with an interception returned for a touchdown by Senior Vashaud Williams (26-yard return).

The Hurricanes made a touchdown during early second quarter, but defense came back with a scoop and score fumble by Junior Nate Peterson for a 34-yard touchdown return (27-6 at the half). The second half of the game had the same aggressive defense, which didn’t allow the Hurricanes to score. The Royals also made three more touchdowns, sealing their win.

Offense was led by quarterback Angelo who went 14/24 and 5 touchdowns. Senior James Brill also had 2 catches for 29 yards and 2 touchdowns and Landry also had 2 touchdowns off of 4 catches and 79 yards. Sophomore Elijah Henton led the team in receptions, catching 6 passes for 48 yards and Senior Jude Servius rushed 8 times for 67 yards.

This week is also pink week so make sure to show up in pink attire!
